Andrés Carne de Res | An extraordinary place in Bogota to put on your bucket list!
If you are in Bogota for work or for leisure you should definitely pay a visit to this extraordinary place called Andrés Carne de Res. Trust me, you will not believe what you see and you will get an experience that you have never had before!
Andres Carne de Res
Andrés Carne de Res opened its doors in 1982 in Chia, a suburb in the northern part of Bogota, with several tables and a grill. Since then it has grown into a unique 2.76-square-mile restaurant with 11 dining areas, two dance floors, more than five kitchens and even a climbing wall for children. Employing hundreds of persons and many craftsmen from around the country who supply the restaurant with hand-painted objects such as cooking utensils and tableware.
Today, Andrés Carne de Res is considered to be one of the most successful and famous restaurants in Colombian history. Not only well known for the food and the crazy aesthetics of the interior, but also for the theatrical service, colourful ceramic cows and the outrageous party atmosphere. A couple of years ago they opened a second location in the upscale neighbourhood La Zona T. This place is probably closer to where you will be staying, however if you want the real experience I definitely recommend you to go to the one in Chia!
So what about the food?
At Andrés Carne de Res you have an extensive food offer with a vast array of South American dishes. From different kind of starters, right up to ceviche, fish platters and different types of meat from the grill as main courses. Everything they serve is delicious and you can be sure that there is something for everyone. If you ask me, you should definitely try the exquisite meats from the grill or the typical Colombian dishes like the Lechona, Ajiaco or Sancocho. As a side dish, I suggest you to take the patacones or the papa criolla. The papa criolla is a yellow patato that only grows in Colombia and it is extremely delicious when you deep fry it and eat it with a bit of guacamoles sauce, yummy!
After dinner time, this restaurant transforms into an amazing club with live musicians, a lot of alcohol and beautiful people dancing everywhere even on the tables! All these elements together will sway you into an unforgettable night with total chaos and where everyone is going wild. You will party like you never did before!
You do need to like latin music, because that is what you will mostly hear: salsa, merengue, reggaetton, vallenato and once in a while some electronic music. If you can’t dance, don’t worry the Colombians will be more than happy to teach you some steps and after a couple of aguardiente shots you will not even think about it anymore! Just be aware though, this local drink is extremely strong and sweet, my worst hangovers in life were after drinking this.
Last but not least, all foreigners get a gift, but I will not spoil the surprise…If you want to know what it is, you have to go and see for yourself!

Have fun and don’t drink too much aguardiente 😀
